Road Conditions

During inclement weather (winter snow or summer monsoons), driving on the Mt. Hopkins Road can be dangerous. It is best to use a 4-wheel drive vehicle during those times.

You may call the summit at 520-879-4570 and inquire of the MMTO day crew or the telescope operator on the weekends as to the current weather and road conditions.  Or, you may call 520-879-4422 for a recording of road conditions.  This recording is updated only when there is a change.  It might also be helpful to look at our webcams.

When work is being conducted on the Mt. Hopkins Rd., road status is also available by calling the same number listed above for recorded updates. Also check our home page for information.
